A Colonial Thanksgiving at the Miller-Cory House plus Lenape Lore, Nov 24th, 2 – 4 pm
A special day of thanks has been part of the American tradition since 1621. The Miller-Cory
House Museum cooks will demonstrate the preparation of an early American Thanksgiving feast in the Frazee Building over the museum’s open-hearth fire, using colonial recipes and seasonal ingredients. (Please note that this is a demonstration only; dinner is not being served.) Then in the main house, join us for a special program highlighting the earliest inhabitants of New Jersey, the Lenape Indians. Various aspects of everyday life such as beliefs, families, home, food, clothing, medicine, storytelling and games will be presented. Admission is $5 ages 13 and older; $4 ages 3-12, and free age 2 and younger.
Gingerbread Sunday, Dec 8, 1:30 -4pm:
Spicy sweet gingerbread is a special part of the holiday season. Children will make a decorative, non-edible gingerbread house and one additional craft to take home and will hear “gingery” stories. Members of the Cooking Committee will also demonstrate early American recipes using ginger over the open hearth. Suggested age: 3 (with assistance for crafts) through elementary school. $5 per child; accompanying adults free. Reservations are required. Open House with Activities in our new Maker Space January 12th, 2-4pm:
Kick off the new year with tours of the house and a variety of history-themed activities for the kids (and kids at heart) in our new Maker Space. Admission is $5 ages 13 and older; $4 ages 3-12 and free age 2 and younger. No reservations are necessary.
Vintage Valentines plus Story Time and a Craft, Sunday, February 9th, 2-4 pm:
Love is in the air as the Miller-Cory House Museum presents “Vintage Valentines”. The writing of romantic notes and letters for St. Valentine’s Day was very popular in colonial America. By the mid-1800s, the first mass-produced Valentine’s Day cards were sold, and an industry was born. The program features a display of vintage valentines, some dating to the 1800s, a children’s Valentine’s Day craft and story time. Admission is $5.00 for adults and children 13 and older, $4.00 for children ages 3 to 12 and free under age 3. No reservations necessary.
Gingerbread for Liberty: Colonial Cookie Molds plus Story Time & a Craft, Sunday, February 23rd, 2-4 pm:
Did you know that George Washington’s soldiers ate gingerbread? Learn all about Revolutionary War baker Christopher Ludwick and the cookie molds he used at a special story time with craft. Then view a collection of colonial cookie molds and hear all about them with collector and Miller-Cory cook, Arlene Soong. Admission is $5.00 for adults and children 13 and older, $4.00 for children ages 3 to 12 and free under age 3. No reservations necessary.
The Farmers’ Year: The Four Seasons of a New Jersey Farm Sunday, March 9th, 2-4 pm
Spring was when the circle of seasons began for colonial families like the Millers and the Corys. Come find out what the jobs and expectations of each season were on a colonial New Jersey farm. Docents will also be cooking over the open-hearth. Families can also enjoy a variety of history-themed activities in our new Maker Space. Admission is $5.00 for adults and children 13 and older, $4.00 for children ages 3 to 12 and free under age 3. No reservations necessary.
Open House plus Open Hearth Cooking March 23rd, 2025, 2-4pm:
The grounds will be open for viewing, docents will be offering tours of the fully furnished c1740 farmhouse and our cooks will be busy over the open hearth. Our Maker Space will be available with self-guided activities for kids and families. Admission is $5 ages 13 and older; $4 ages 3-12 and free age 2 and younger. No reservations are necessary.

Located in Westfield, New Jersey, the mission of the Miller-Cory House Museum is to keep early American history alive through re-creating and interpreting the activities of daily life on a farm in the period 1740-1820. Our goals are to teach, provide understanding, stimulate curiosity, and encourage lasting interest in the time period. We are open September through May.
